Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Fall in Final Four

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball (20-7) team ends the program's first ever stint in the post-season tonight after losing to Lancaster Bible College 70-80. The Chargers (22-5) move on in the NEAC tournament to play in the championship game against Morrisville State.

How It Happened: The game began with two shots from behind the arc, one from either side of the court. But the Chargers established the lead with a 10-3 run. They were able to produce early on because they went for second chance points, made blocks, and brought strong defense with three steals, one of which eventually led to a fastbreak dunk from Christo Majok. Freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.) interrupted the run with a three pointer assisted by senior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md.). The Chargers' Luke Beers scored five consecutive points but Powell punctured the Charger's progress again, this time from inside the paint. The coaching staff turned to freshmen Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA.) and Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl.), bringing them into the action off the bench. Powell and Christian both led the Phoenix in points for the first half, scoring seven each, and Hess scored six as the three freshman smoothed the path for their team in the first, which ended 35-29 Chargers.

In the second half, junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md.) drove point production for the Phoenix with nine points. The Chargers pulled to an 11 point lead very early into the half. Adams and junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) teamed up to stab at the Chargers' advantage with two jumpers from Adams assisted by Frazier and a defensive rebound from Adams that led to a three point bucket for Frazier. Senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD) stepped in, too, with some action in the paint to make the score a much closer 40-44 Chargers. Free throws punctuated the action until about the nine minute mark when the Chargers pulled into an 11 point lead again. McDowell continued to grind, and Frazier contributed from behind the arc. Freshman Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, VA.) made a three-pointer with 17 seconds ago amidst the storm of intentional fouls in the battle for victory, but the Chargers pocketed the win 80-70 in the end.

Inside the Box Score: Shooting was pretty close with the Chargers holding the advantage over the Phoenix 39.3%-35.3%. Stats were remarkably close in other categories. The Phoenix scored more second chance points than the Chargers 15-13. The Chargers outscored the Phoenix in points of turnovers by only 21-20. The difference in fastbreak opportunities was largest as the Chargers had 6 and the Phoenix none. Christo Majok of the Chargers led the game in points with 21 and was tied with another teammate as the leader in boards with 12. Frazier and Christian both had 13 tallies tonight in the point column and Adams led in boards with 11.

Up Next: Wilson will find out on Monday whether or not they are selected to participate in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) tournament next week.
