Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Historic Season Comes to a Close for Men's Hoops

CHESTER, Pa. - The historic season for the Wilson College men's basketball team came to a close this evening in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships. The Phoenix (20-8) fell to the Widener University Pride (16-10) by a final score of 92-65.

How It Happened: The Phoenix, who were without sophomore all-conference performer Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) due to injury, climbed out to an early 7-2 lead on a layup by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute) and back-to-back jumpers by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley). A quick 11-2 response by the Pride put the hosts up 13-7, however the Phoenix responded and a three-pointer by Adams knotted the game at 13-13. Again, the Pride went on an 11-2 run to push their lead back to 9 points at 24-15 just under the ten minute mark. The Pride continued to add to their lead over the last part of the first half and took a 48-32 lead into the break. During the second half, the Phoenix offense went cold as the team tried to get back into the game. Typically a strong team from behind the arc, the Phoenix managed to hit on just 2-of-10 from downtown in the second half as the Pride shot an outstanding 51% from the field and grew the lead to 30 points late in the game. The Phoenix continued to battle but couldn't mount any kind of rally as the Pride closed out the game with a 92-65 win.

Inside the Box Score: The 65 points for the Phoenix was the lowest scoring output since a loss to Lancaster Bible back in November. Adams led the Phoenix with a 19 point and 10 rebound double-double. Junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) was the only other Phoenix to score in double-digits with 14 points. The Pride held a 16-5 advantage in points off turnovers and a 50-34 edge in points in the paint. The 20 wins this season is the most in the programs history.

Up Next: This concludes the 2017-18 season for the Phoenix.
