Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Phoenix Roll Over Eagles

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team closed out their home opening weekend this afternoon with a North Eastern Athletic Conference match versus the College of Saint Elizabeth. The Phoenix (5-1, 1-1 NEAC) dominated the match from the beginning and defeated the Eagles (3-10, 0-2 NEAC)  3-0 by scores of 25-6, 25-21, 25-15.

How It Happened:  After the two teams traded points in the early going, the Phoenix used a 10-0 run highlighted by a service ace by sophomore Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa., Cocalico) and kills by freshman Emelio Jones (Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Ft. Lauderdale HS) and sophomore Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) to give the Phoenix a commanding 14-3 lead. The Phoenix closed out the first set 25-6 by scoring the final four points which included a huge kill by Baxter. The second set proved to be a bit more challenging as the Phoenix could never quite pull away from the Eagles but maintained a 2 or 3 point lead for most of the set until late. Leading 17-14, Baxter again came up with a kill which was followed by a monster kill by junior Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) to make it 19-14. Eventually, the hosts finished off the second set as freshman Carlos Jimenez (Miami Beach. FL., FLVS) hammered a kill off of an Eagles player to win the set 25-21. In the third set, the Phoenix jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a point by Frazier and back-to-back kills from Aaron Hoke. Leading 13-12, the Phoenix rattled off 9 straight points that included a kill by Baxter and a kill and block by Jimenez to grow the lead to 22-12. The Phoenix ended the match as Firestone set up Aaron Hoke for a kill and the win 25-15.
