Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Soar Into Post-Season with Win

MORRISTOWN, NJ. - The Wilson College men's basketball team continued to streak towards the post-season this afternoon with a road victory at the College of Saint Elizabeth. The Phoenix (19-6, 12-3 NEAC) have won 7 in a row after today's 89-73 victory over the Eagles (8-16, 4-12 NEAC).

How It Happened: A balanced offense has been a staple to the success of the Phoenix and today was no different as all five starters scored in double digits and the team finished the regular season with all five starters averaging double-digit points per game. The offense got going early as the Phoenix opened the game with  jumper from junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) followed by a three-pointer from freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn). A few minutes later an 8-0 run by the Phoenix capped off by back-to-back three's from Frazier pushed the lead to 9 points at 13-4. Just after the midway point of the half, the Eagles used a 9-0 run to pull within 1 point at 27-26, but the Phoenix answered with five straight points from sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park). With just over two minutes to go in the half, another three-pointer by Powell gave the Phoenix a 10 point advantage, but the Eagles closed the half scoring the last 5 points to make it 45-40 Phoenix at the intermission. A 9-1 run by the Phoenix, highlighted by a steal by Powell that led to a layup by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute), pushed the visitors lead to 13 points at 54-41 early in the second half. Near the midway point of the half, the Phoenix got a layup from bean and a jumper by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) to grow the lead to 15 points. Later, a three-pointer by freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) followed by an offensive rebound and put back by freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl., Lyman ) gave the Phoenix their largest lead of the game at 77-59. The team would cruise the rest of the way and close out the Eagles by a final score of 89-73.

Inside the Box Score: For the game the Phoenix shot 42% from the field and 76% from the charity stripe. Bean led the Phoenix with a 23 point and 12 rebound double-double. Frazier and Adams added 14 points each while McDowell and Powell added 13 points and 11 points respectively. The Phoenix held a 47-43 advantage in rebounds and had a 23-15 edge in points off of turnovers.

Up Next: The Phoenix will make their first post-season appearance ever when they host Gallaudet University on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
