Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Decimate Bison

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - In their victory over Gallaudet University tonight the Wilson College men's basketball team clinched the number two spot in the NEAC South Division. In doing so, they earned the right to host their first game of the post-season at home on Tuesday the 20th at 7:00 p.m. against a to-be-determined opponent. In this evening's game the Phoenix wiped out the Bison 96-60.

How It Happened: The Phoenix (18-6, 11-3 NEAC) got a solid start against the Bison (8-16, 7-8 NEAC) with an 8-4 run as junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md.) hit 2 three-pointers and sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx) landed a lay-up. The Phoenix continued to soar above their opponents as they gained a nine point lead 17-8 after a three-point field goal from freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.). Kelly Preston of the Bison scored a quick five points for his team as they started to gain on the Phoenix. But that didn't last long as junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) stepped up to land a three-pointer, and another one, and another one. Frazier scored 3 three-point field goals in a row. As the momentum shifted in the direction of the Phoenix, the home team flaunted their advantage. The Phoenix soared even higher as senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD) stole the ball from Preston and dunked on the fast break as the fans at Gannett Memorial Field House went wild. With the score 28-13, the Phoenix secured a 15 point lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. Before the half was over Frazier and Bean added quite a few tallies to the Phoenix score, and the teams headed to the break 43-30 Phoenix.

The Bison tried to keep up, but the Phoenix kept flying to new heights. Their energy couldn't be matched. Another steal, this time from Powell, led to a jumper from freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA.) assisted by McDowell. McDowell had a strong presence on the court tonight as he set up play after play. Freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl.) showed off his skill tonight too with couple lay-ups. The Bison were still scoring buckets, but they couldn't make a dent in the Phoenix's lead as the home team made 60% of their field goals in the second half. Senior Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md.) made a defensive rebound and dribbled it all the way up court and through a herd of Bison to sink a jumper that gave the home team an 84-51 advantage. The half ended in a 10-7 run with a slight advantage for the Phoenix, but by that time they had established such a drastic lead that they easily came out on top 96-60, winning by 36 points.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix made 50 percent of their shots tonight while the Bison made only about 38.5 percent. Six Phoenix had double digits in the points column tonight. Adams, Bean, and Frazier each had 14 points. Freshman Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, VA.) scored a career-high 12 points. Powell also recorded ten points. And McDowell had a double-double as he scored 10 points and had 11 assists. The Phoenix's victory was aided by their willingness to put in hard work. They scored 28 points off turnovers tonight and had a practically unheard of 53 points from the bench.

Up Next: The Phoenix play at the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at noon.
