Men's Hoops Rolls Over Berks

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted Penn State Berks in North Eastern Athletic Conference action this afternoon. For the second time this season, the Phoenix (17-6, 11-3 NEAC) topped the 100 point mark as they defeated the Nittany Lions (2-21, 2-13 NEAC) by a final score of 101-78.

How It Happened: After trailing by four points early on, the Phoenix grabbed their first lead of the game after juniors Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) and Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) drained back-to-back three-pointers to make it 12-10. Just before the midway point of the half, the Phoenix used an 8-0 run highlighted by three-pointers from senior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) and freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) giving the hosts a 26-16 advantage. Later in the half, back-to-back buckets by freshman Montaz McCray (Baltimore, Md., Chapelgate Christian) boosted the Phoenix lead to 14 points. A 13-0 run by the Phoenix would soon follow with key baskets by freshman Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, VA., Osbourn) and Frazier to grow the lead to 25 points at 53-28. However, the Nittany Lions closed the half on a 10-0 run to make it 53-38 Phoenix at the break. Sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) got the Phoenix offense started in the second half as he nailed a three-pointer. Near the twelve minute mark Bean struck again, this time with an old fashioned three-point play pushing the lead to 79-51. With less than a minute to go, freshman Trevor Floyd (New Oxford, Pa., New Oxford) canned a pair of free-throws making the score 100-78. McCray would add another late free throw as the Phoenix cruised to the 101-78 victory.

Inside the Box Score: Bean had a game high 25 points and added 7 rebounds. Christian and McCray came off the bench to score 15 points and 14 points respectively. Freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) tallied 12 points and 5 boards. As a team the Phoenix shot 47% from the field while outscoring the Nittany Lions 38-22 in the paint.

Up Next: Wilson will host Gallaudet University on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in a critical NEAC South Division match-up.
