Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Outlast Phoenix, 78-71

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Wilson men's basketball team took on the Juniata College Eagles in the second game of the annual Doc Greene Tournament held at Juniata. The Phoenix (2-7,1-1 CSAC) came up short against the Eagles (3-5, 0-1 Landmark) by a score of 78-71.

How It Happened: The night could not have started any better for the Juniata Eagles as they jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead which forced a Wilson timeout just 5 minutes into play. The Phoenix fought back into the game by going on a 15-3 run of their own. Junior Jake Young (Friendship, Md.) had 8 points during the Phoenix scoring spurt, which allowed the Phoenix to grab a 15-14 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half. With 5:20 to play in the first half and the score sitting at 25-25, Junior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) knocked down a three-pointer to give Wilson another lead. The Eagles answered with a jumper that was followed by another Phoenix bucket, however Juniata hit two free throws on the next possession and would score again to take a 31-30 lead into the half. Juniata quickly pushed their one point lead to seven to begin the half and were able to extend it all the way to twelve with 15 minutes remaining in the game. With eight minutes to play, Wilson found themselves trailing by 17 with a lot of ground to make up. Three straight three-pointers would help as Jake Young hit one while Rashaan Bean followed with two. Bean scored again on the next possession to cut the deficit to 9 with 5 minutes left. Down nine with 2:30 to play, Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) hit a fast break jumper and Bean nailed another three to trim the Eagles lead to six. The game would come down to whether or not Juniata could make their free throws and hold on for a victory. In the final minute, the Eagles hit 6 of 6 foul shots to clinch a 78-71 win.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix shot 36% from the field and 23% from three. Rashaan Bean had a 26-point evening with 7 rebounds and 5 three-pointers. Bean reached the 1,000-point mark in the game and becomes only the second Phoenix men's basketball player to reach this milestone. Jake Young contributed 13 points as well for Wilson. Freshmen Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, Md., Springbrook HS) and Adrian Thomas each had nine points.

Up Next: Wilson returns to Huntingdon, Pa. tomorrow for the consolation game of the Doc Greene Tournament against Cabrini University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
