Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Phoenix Top Highlanders, 61-54

LANGHORNE, Pa.- The Wilson College women's basketball team traveled to Cairn University this evening for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown. The Phoenix (3-4, 1-2 CSAC) defeated the Highlanders (3-4, 2-1 CSAC) by a final score of 61-54.

How It Happened: Cairn would strike first in this one and jump out to an 11-4 lead four minutes into the first quarter. Wilson would compose themselves and start to gather steam thanks to a big three-pointer from senior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa., Honesdale) off a sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) assist, that cut the Highlander lead to just four. Both teams would duke it out for the rest of the quarter, freshman Princess Frazier-Lyles (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) was able to sink a layup right before the buzzer, evening the game at 15 a piece. After Cairn was able to score first in the second quarter, senior Kai Wyatt (Catonsville, Md., Md Acad Tech & Hlth Sci) answered right back with a three of her own that was able to put Wilson back on top. The lead would switch teams throughout the rest of the half, Singer was able to hit a three-pointer with less than a minute left in the half to tie things up at 26 but Cairn was able to sink a layup right before the half ended, giving the Highlanders the slight advantage 28-26.

The second half was all offense as the two teams would continue to battle for the lead. Wilson would really start to pick things up on both sides of the ball a little over halfway through the third quarter. With the game tied at 37 each, the Phoenix would start on a run that would clinch them the game. Michaela Singer was able to hit a three off an Amber Watkins assist. Kai Wyatt was also able to knock down a three that would help contribute to the 9-4 run. The Phoenix would hold on to this one and win, 61-54.

Inside The Box Score: Free-throws proved to be big for Wilson in this matchup as they would go on to shoot 86% from the charity stripe. Wyatt would lead both teams with 17 points, Singer would finish second in scoring with 14 and senior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl., South Fort Myers) would score 10. The Phoenix would go on to shoot 37% from the floor.
