Highlanders Upend Phoenix


LANGHORNE, Pa.- The Wilson College men's basketball team traveled to Cairn University this evening for a CSAC contest against the Highlanders. Wilson (2-6, 1-1 CSAC) was defeated by Cairn (5-3, 2-0 CSAC) 94-76. 

How It Happened: Cairn jumped out to an early 13-5 first half lead over the Phoenix and would extend their lead to 19-5 just 8 minutes in, after consecutive three-pointers from the Highlanders. With a little over eight minutes remaining in the half, the Highlanders led 28-8 as the Phoenix struggled to score against their defense. Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) hit a three-pointer that was followed up by a Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) bucket to cut the Cairn lead to fifteen. With three minutes left in the half, the Phoenix trailed 42-21. Rashaan Bean would finish the half scoring 7 of the last 9 Phoenix points as they went into the locker room down 46-30. Wilson started the second half with back-to-back three-pointers and found themselves trailing by 10. Cairn pushed their lead back up to 20 halfway through the half but with under eight minutes to play the Phoenix began to chip away at the Highlander lead. Wilson went on a 9-0 run that was sparked by the play of freshman RaeShaun Henderson (North Dinwiddie, Va., Dinwiddie HS). The Phoenix run brought them within ten of the Highlanders. Despite the attempt at a comeback, Cairn was able to hold on to their lead  and finish the game on top 94-76. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson shot 39% in the game and only shot 23% from three on 9-39 shooting. Keion Adams led the team with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Rashaan Bean, RaeShaun Henderson and Zachary Powell all finished with 12 points. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will head to Juniata College Friday to play the Eagles in the first game of the Doc Greene Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
