Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Phoenix Fall in CSAC Championship

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Wilson College field hockey team took the field this afternoon against the Keystone College Giants to crown the champion of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). The Phoenix were unable to capture their first CSAC title as they fell to the Giants, 2-0.

How It Happened: Keystone waisted no time grabbing a lead in the game as their first goal came just 11 minutes into play. They were awarded a penalty corner and were able to capitalize on that opportunity when CSAC Player of the Year, Savanna Robinson, took a pass from Allison Berman and netted her fourteenth goal on the season. Wilson struggled to generate many offensive chances in the first half as they only managed three shots on goal. Keystone was able to fire off 11 first half shots, 5 of which were on goal. The Giants would take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half of play started with little action for either side. Keystone was able to get off a few shots but none resulted in a goal. Around the 50 minute mark, Keystone turned up their offensive pressure by rattling off 3 shots on goal in a matter of 20 seconds. Sophomore Brooke McLachlan (High Range, New South Wales, Chevalier) was able to stand strong and save all three Keystone chances. The Giants would extend their lead just a few minutes later when they were awarded another penalty corner. Allison Berman was able to score off the corner to give her team a 2-0 lead with just 13 minutes to play. The Phoenix would try and pull off a comeback as they began to attack the Giants defense, however they would run out of time and the Giants would hold on to win 2-0.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix were out shot in the game 21-8. Sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) led the Phoenix with two shots on goal. McLachlan had a strong day in goal with 10 saves. Keystone had 11 corners while Wilson had 8 in the contest.

Up Next: The Phoenix will face Arcadia University on Wednesday November 7 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. A time is yet to be determined.
