Royals Rally Past Phoenix

HARRISONBURG, Va.- The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road this evening, as they squared off against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University in a nonconference game. The Royals (3-2, 0-0) claimed a 92-73 victory over the Phoenix (1-4, 0-0)

How It Happened: The two teams would start out trading possessions and points for the first several minutes until Eastern Mennonite jumped out to a 33-16 lead thanks to a 20-4 run. Wilson would spend the next five minutes trying to get something going, with several runs of their own, but could not seem to find the lead. Senior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) capped off the first half with 14 points, three rebounds, and one steal; while freshman RaeShaun Henderson (North Dinwiddie, Va, Dinwiddie HS) also had a big first half, as he was able to add eight points, three rebounds and two assists. Eastern Mennonite would go on to shoot 59% from the floor in the first half of play, as they would enter half time with the score in their favor, 46-33.

The Phoenix would come out red-hot and start the second half on a 9-0 run. Senior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) was able to knock down a three-pointer and a field goal, during the run, to help narrow the gap to just four points. Eastern Mennonite would go on a run of their own and increase their lead up to nine; Wilson, however, would rally try to make one last comeback attempt. Freshman Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, Md, Springbrook HS) hit two layups and senior Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) knocked down a jumper to bring the Royal lead to within four points. Eastern Mennonite would compose themselves and start on a 13-2 run to jump out a 15 point lead. The Royals would go on the win the game by a score of 92-73.

Inside The Box Score: Eastern Mennonite shot 49% while the Phoenix shot 42%. Rashaan Bean continued his strong start to the season and led Wilson with 21 points and two steals while Keion Adams added 11 points and five rebounds. RaeShaun Henderson would finish with a season high 12 points. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will break for Thanksgiving but will continue their road stretch on November 27, where they will face the Eagles of Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m.
