Phoenix Cruise Past Crusaders

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's basketball team opened up their 2018-2019 season tonight with a non-conference game against the Crusaders of Christendom College. The Phoenix cruised to an opening night victory over the Crusaders by a score of 67-34. 

How It Happened: The Crusaders came out strong in the opening minutes of the first quarter, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. Wilson would gather themselves and start to chip away at the Christendom lead thanks to a 17-1 run to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, both teams would continue to battle on both sides of the court. The Phoenix defense would come up big as they would hold the Crusaders to just nine points in the quarter and a shooting percentage of 36%. The first half would end in favor of Wilson, 36-21. 

Christendom would start the second half on a 4-0 run in the first three minutes of the quarter before the Phoenix would take over. The Wilson defense would not give up another point and hold the Crusaders to just four points in the half. The Offense would come up big too thanks to 20 straight unanswered points. The Phoenix would close out the third quarter 59-25. In the fourth quarter, the Wilson defense would continue to dominate. They would hold Christendom to just nine points and a shooting percentage of 20%. The Phoenix would go on to win in impressive fashion, 67-34.

Inside The Box Score: Wilson would finish the night shooting 37% while holding the Crusaders to 26%. The Phoenix were able to capitalize with 27 second chance points and 10 points coming from the bench. Seniors Kai Wyatt (Catonsville, Md., Md. Acad Tech & Hlth Sci) and Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) would lead both teams with 24 points and 23 points, respectively. 

Up Next: Wilson will be back at home this Monday as the Phoenix will square off against Central Pennsylvania College at 7:00 p.m.
