Phoenix Beaten By Blazers

FREDERICK, Md.- The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road this evening where they battled the Blazers of Hood College. The Phoenix (1-1) were defeated by the Blazers (2-1) by a score of 90-64. 

How It Happened: Wilson jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead early in the game with senior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) draining a three-pointer for the first points of the contest, followed by a steal and layup from senior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley). The Blazers would spend the next two minutes chipping away at the Wilson lead and eventually even everything up at 8-8. The Phoenix would pull ahead again but Hood battled back and took control of the lead. Wilson would head into halftime trailing 43-31. 

The second half started off with Hood on an 8-0 run before the Phoenix would stop them. The Blazers would drain several 3 pointers throughout the second half, helping to increase their lead. Hood College would go on to win the game 90-64. Junior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park), sophomore Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn), and freshman Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, Md, Springbrook HS) would each finish the second half with six points a piece, while Adams tallied up five points in the half. 

Inside The Box Score: Both teams shot 39% from the floor tonight. Wilson shot 24% from beyond the three-point arc while Hood shot 41%. The Blazers were able to go 23-28 from the free-throw line while the Phoenix went 8-13. Bean led the Phoenix with 16 points, Powell and Frazier  would also finish in double-digits with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. 

Up Next: The men's basketball team will travel to Shippensburg University this Wednesday where they will take on the Red Raiders in a nonconference matchup at 7:30 p.m.
