Phoenix Halted By Highlanders

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College men's soccer team battled the Highlanders of Cairn University this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) clash. The Phoenix (2-6-2, 1-1) fought hard the whole match but fell to the Highlanders (8-3-1, 3-0), by a score of 2-1.

How It Happened: Wilson traded possessions with the Highlanders in the beginning of the match until Cairn was able to sneak one past the keeper, making it 1-0. The Phoenix would fire right back with several attacks of their own. Sophomore René Quintanilla (San Salvador, El Salvador, Chambersburg) had four attempts in the first half, including a header that was saved, and a shot that hit off the post. The big moment, for Wilson, came when sophomore Samuel Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana, Opoku Ware School) found the back of the net off a junior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) cross, tying the match 1-1 right before the end of the first period. The second half would begin with Cairn scoring a goal off a quick cross, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Highlanders. The Phoenix and Highlanders traded attacks for the rest of the match. Wilson played well throughout the contest but could not find the equalizer and ultimately fell to Cairn, 2-1.

Inside The Box Score: Appiah records his second goal of the season, while Perry gets his first assist. The Phoenix would outshoot the Highlanders in the first half, 5-7, but would go on to be outshot 15-10.

Up Next: The men's soccer team will hit the road for a nonconference match against the Green Terror of McDaniel College this Tuesday, October 9, at 4:00 pm.
