Phoenix Advance To CSAC Championship With A Win Over Keuka

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College field hockey team went up against the Wolves from Keuka College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semi-Final game. The Phoenix (10-5, 6-2 CSAC) defeated the Wolves (6-11, 3-0 NEAC) by a score of 2-1. With this victory, Wilson advances to the CSAC championship game!

How It Happened: The Phoenix would start the game off with two attacks on goal, but came up empty both times. Wilson was able to fire off 7 shots in the first half while holding Keuka to zero with sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) tallying up four shots in the first. For the rest of the half, both teams would trade offensive positions, but neither one would find the net. The first goal wouldn't come until the fifty-eighth minute of the second half when Keuka would score off a deflection in front of the goal, giving the Wolves a 1-0 advantage. But, less than a minute later the Phoenix would rise up and respond with a goal of their own. Senior Payton Dziemburski (Rising Sun, Md., Rising Sun) would find a rebound and beat the Keuka keeper, evening the game up at 1-1. A little over ten minutes later, the Wilson offense would respond again with another goal. This time Michaela Singer would burry a cross from sophomore Allison Reber (Narvon, Pa., Garden Spot) into the net, giving the Phoenix a 2-1 win.

Inside the Box Score: The Wilson offense would finish with 15 shots while the defense would hold Keuka to just six. Singer led both teams with 7 shots, while senior Lauren Moss (Bloomsburg, Pa., Central Columbia) and freshman Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, Pa. , Midd-West) would each finish with two shots. The Phoenix were able to capitalize with 13 penalty corners during the game.

Up Next: The field hockey team will travel to La Plume, Pa. where they will face the Giants of Keystone College for the CSAC Championship this Saturday, November 3.
