Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Gophers Gnaw on Phoenix

TOWSON, Md. - The Wilson College men's soccer team hit the road for a non-conference match-up at Goucher College this evening. The host Gophers (2-8-1) topped the Phoenix (2-5-2) by a final score of 4-0.

How It Happened: Both teams started off the match trading shots and Phoenix senior Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford) fired the first shot just twenty-seven seconds in but the Gophers keeper corralled the shot. While the teams were trading shots during the first thirty minutes, each goalkeeper was up to the task as both notched 3 saves during that same span. During one minute of action late in the first half, the momentum moved heavily in favor of the Gophers as Zach Brumbalow scored a goal and Nick Haines followed with a goal of his own to put the hosts up 2-0. Offensively, the Phoenix tried to respond as the team took four corner kicks late in the half, but wasn't able to convert any of them into points. The second half of the match played out similarly to the first as the Phoenix offense was only able to get two shots on goal by sophomores Samuel Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana, Opoku Ware School) and René Quintanilla (San Salvador, El Salvador, Chambersburg) and neither shot was able to find the back of the net. The Gophers tacked on two late goals to post the final 4-0 score.

Inside the Box Score: The Gophers held an 18-9 edge in shots including a 13-5 advantage in shot son goal. The Phoenix took 7 corner kicks and goalkeeper Dan Perry collected a season high 8 saves.

Up Next: Wilson will be back in action this weekend with a CSAC match versus Cairn University.
