Phoenix Fall To Lions In 3

BRYN ATHYN, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team braved the rain and hit the road for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game where they faced the Lions of Bryn Athyn College. The Phoenix (7-12, 4-4 CSAC) were defeated by the Lions (8-10, 3-3 CSAC) 3-0, with scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-23. 

How It Happened: The Lions were able to jump out to an early 7-4 lead in the first set. Wilson would battle back and even things up at nine before Bryn Athyn would extend their lead again, 20-14. After a Phoenix timeout, Wilson would battle back scoring five straight points. The Lions, however, would close out the set by a score of 25-22. In the second, the Phoenix would score the first four points of the set before Bryn Athyn would go on to score 11 straight. The two teams would trade points back and forth but the Lions would come out on top in this set, 25-20. The two teams would continue to trade attacks in the third set until Wilson would start to pull ahead, eventually extending their lead to 18-14. Bryn Athyn would answer back with six straight points and switch the lead 20-18. Wilson would battle but could not come back, giving up the set by a score of 25-23 and giving the Lions the victory three sets to none.

Inside The Box Score: The Phoenix defense provided seven blocks on the night and had three different players with three blocks a piece. Senior Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) would cap off the afternoon with 11 kills, freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii, University Laboratory School) finished with nine kills while junior Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) would add three. Baptiste had a career high 3 total blocks while Quarry and sophomore Lizzy Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fl., Coral Springs) both accounted three blocks a piece. Sophomore Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) and Posiulai  would each chalk up 15 digs each and freshman Madison Coy (Indiana, Pa., Penns Manor) added 10. Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, Texas, King George) would lead both teams with 19 assists.

Up Next: Wilson College will travel back to Bryn Athyn, where they will face the Lions in the first round of the CSAC Tournament on October 30 at 7:00 pm.
