Blue Jays Swoop Past Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Tonight was Senior Night for the Wilson College women's volleyball as they battled the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College in a nonconference match. The Phoenix (7-11, 4-3) were defeated by the Blue Jays (17-16) three sets to none by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-15. Before the game, the lone senior on Wilson's volleyball team, Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown), was honored for her dedication and commitment over the past four years. 

How It Happened: The Phoenix would jump out to a 5-1 lead to start off the first set before the Blue Jays would battle back and tie the match 12-12. Elizabethtown would go on the win the first set by a score of 25-18. The second set would have five lead changes early on with Wilson and the Blue Jays exchanging several rallies. Elizabethtown would settle things down and win the second set by a score of 25-19. In the third set, the two teams would exchange leads seven times. The Phoenix fought hard and tried to mount several comeback attempts but it proved to be too little, too late as Elizabethtown would go on to win the final set, 25-15. Wilson finished the night with 23 kills against 15 errors on 85 attempts for the night, giving them an attacking percentage of .094. The Phoenix also added five aces and 3 blocks. The Blue Jays had 47 kills with 14 errors off of 105 attempts, for an attacking percentage of .314. 

Inside The Box Score: Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, Texas., King George) would start the first set with three straight aces for the Phoenix. Zuniga would also finish with 20 assists and and seven digs. Freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii., University Laboratory School) would lead the team with 13 kills on the night while junior Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) went on to add five kills and Quarry finished with two kills. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will take on Bryn Athyn this Saturday, October 27, at 1:00 p.m. in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup.
