Phoenix Glide Past Lions

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Tonight the Phoenix played against the Bryn Athyn College Lions 7-13, 4-7 NEAC). The Phoenix (13-6, 7-3 NEAC) glided steadily to victory 98-80.

How It Happened: The Phoenix established a small lead early on that paid off as the half progressed. Things started out with an 11-5 run from the Phoenix that gave them some breathing room. Those first 11 points for the Phoenix consisted of 3 three pointers from freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.) within as many minutes. During that run senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD) also contributed a jump shot from in the paint. The Lions then tied the score 13-13, but the Phoenix moved back up into the lead quickly. Sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx) made a fast break after a wily steal from freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA.) to give the Phoenix a nine point lead 29-20. Both sides were active behind the arc, and the last minutes of action in the first half saw back to back fast breaks from each team. For the Phoenix, the fast break came from McDowell. The visiting team went confidently to the locker room ahead of the Lions 51-43.

To start the half the Phoenix went on a straight 12-0 run that was completely comprised of three-pointers. Junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md.) had two of those three-pointers--Bean, and junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) had the other two. The Phoenix worked their way up to a 20 point lead with a little more than 14 minutes left. They remained steadily ahead the Lions for the rest of the game. During that time the Lions did little to chip away at the visiting team's lead. What progress they made wasn't enough as the Phoenix continued to score prolifically in what was a fast-paced, offensive game.  Adams contributed to the Phoenix's score significantly as he added 15 points to the scoreboard in the second half alone. The Phoenix tamed the Lions by a final score of 98-80.

Inside the Box Score: Adams led the Phoenix in scoring with 22 points. McDowell had a double-double tonight of 13 points and 11 assists.
