Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chargers Attack Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Tonight the Wilson College women's basketball team fell to the Lancaster Bible College Chargers (11-7, 9-0 NEAC) by a score of 30-67. The Chargers remain undefeated in the conference, while the Phoenix now have a record of 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

How It Happened: In the first quarter, the Chargers consistently notched up their lead against the Phoenix. Junior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa) scored the first bucket for the Phoenix, but there was not enough action from the field for the home team to keep up with the Chargers as they made 42.2% of their field goals this game. The Chargers' Courtney Goyak was virtually unstoppable at the board with 18 total rebounds, making it hard for the Phoenix to turn out any second chance points. The Phoenix did capitalize on a number of turnovers, however, like when freshman Rachel Stoner (East Berlin, Pa.) sunk a three-pointer off a turnover. But the Chargers kept building up their lead, and they put 20 points between them and the hosting Phoenix by the time the buzzer rang for the half.

The Phoenix started the third quarter with a jumper from freshman Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa.) and a three-pointer from junior Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.). It looked like the Phoenix might cut into the Chargers' lead, but the Chargers recovered quickly and ended up having their highest scoring quarter with 20 points. The Chargers had gotten their lead up to 35 points, but Wallace remained a leader on the court throughout--between her, Watkins, and junior Amber Jones (Waldorf, Md.), they made it possible for the Phoenix to finish the fourth quarter their strongest of the game. It was a team effort on the court tonight for the Phoenix, but the undefeated Chargers swept the victory by a final score of 67-30.

Inside the Box Score: Wallace led the Phoenix tonight in boards and points with 16 boards and 9 points. The Chargers Caitlin Hickey had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Up Next: The Phoenix travel to Hollins University on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
