Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles Prey on Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team suffered a loss 71-82 in their home gym today against the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles. This moves the Eagles up to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the NEAC. The Phoenix record is now 7-9 overall and they, too, are 3-5 in the conference.

How It Happened: Things started out well for the Phoenix with a 5-2 run, but the Eagles quickly took the lead. The Eagles had a strong presence on the court, making it hard for the Phoenix offense to produce. Junior Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va) landed a three point bucket that was the start of a six point run for her to make the score 15-12 with the Eagles leading by only three points. By the time the second quarter was queued up, however, the Eagles had managed to put 8 points between them and the Phoenix for a lead of 22-14. Junior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) opened up the second quarter with a short jumper in the paint. Then another three-pointer from Day put the Phoenix just four points away from catching their opponents. Junior Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) then made a long jumper, but that was all to easily answered by the Eagles' offense. The Eagles kept adding points to the scoreboard, but the Phoenix outscored them in the second quarter 24-22. Henderson played a crucial part in bringing what was an 11 point lead for the visitors down to just a six point lead 44-38 at the half.

Deja Ingram of the Eagles was a constant threat on the court as she shot for 11 points in the first half and 16 points in the second half. The Phoenix tried to keep up offensively, but they trailed by 10 or so for much of the quarter. With the fourth quarter starting out 64-57, the Phoenix put in work, and it looked like they might have a chance to rally for the lead when Henderson got a defensive rebound and then landed a jumper to make the score 68-64 Eagles. Deja Ingram kept playing strong defense though and made some impressive blocks that made it virtually impossible for the Phoenix to catch up. Despite a jumper from freshman Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa.) with only two seconds left, the Phoenix gave it up by a final score of 72-81 to the Eagles.

Inside the Box Score: Deja Ingram was the game's leading scorer. She had a double double with 27 points and 13 rebounds. For the Phoenix, Henderson recorded a personal season high in the points column and also got a double double consisting of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Day had 19 total points and junior Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI) really made a difference at the board with 13 rebounds. While the Phoenix bench outscored the Eagles bench 11-4, the Eagles capitalized on points off turnovers and outscored the Phoenix in that category 19-6.

Up Next: The Phoenix's next match-up is on Wednesday at home against NEAC opponent Lancaster Bible College at 8:00 p.m..
