Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Torch Eagles

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team tied a program high with 111 points and have now won 8 of the last 9 games after defeating the College of Saint Elizabeth 111-82 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Phoenix (12-5, 6-2 NEAC) had six players score in double-digits led by freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) in the win over the Eagles (4-11, 1-7 NEAC).

How It Happened: The opening five minutes saw the teams go back and forth scoring as the Phoenix got early three-point baskets by juniors Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) as the hosts held a 17-16 lead. A few minutes later, three straight baskets by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute) and sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) gave the Phoenix a 26-18 advantage. With just over eight minutes to go in the half, Christian caught fire hitting back-to-back three's and a jumper to push the Phoenix lead to 41-28. The lead grew as large as 19 points, but the Eagles closed out the half cutting the deficit to 11 points as the Phoenix led 58-47 at the half. As the second half began, the Phoenix went on an 8-0 run highlighted by baskets from McDowell, Bean and Frazier and held a commanding 66-47 lead. Later in the half back-to-back three-pointer by freshmen Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) and Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, VA., Osbourn) ballooned the Phoenix lead to 36 points at 103-67. A driving layup by freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl., Lyman ) a few minutes later gave the hosts their largest lead of the game at 109-72 as the Phoenix cruised to the 111-82 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The 111 points is the most scored by the men's team since a 111-105 win over Penn College during the 2014-15 season. The Phoenix dominated the turnover battle converting 24 Eagles turnovers into 35 points. Bean recorded his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Christian scored a career high 20 points. Frazier and McDowell added 16 points each, while Powell scored 16 points and Adams tallied 14 points and a team high 3 steals.

Up Next: Wilson will host Lancaster Bible on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in a battle of the top two teams in the NEAC South Division.
