Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Day Tallies 1,000th Point as Phoenix Rally Past Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) scored her 1,000th career point and the Wilson College women's basketball team rallied from a 12 point halftime deficit to defeat Galludet University 61-57 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Day scored 16 of her game high 22 points for the Phoenix (7-8. 3-4 NEAC) in the second half  to lead the team past the Bison (6-10, 4-4 NEAC).

How It Happened: The Bison opened the game on an 11-0 run as the team was hot from the floor connecting on six of their first 8 shots. A three-pointer by Day ended the run and got the Phoenix on the board but the Bison closed out the first quarter with a 25-14 advantage. Both teams went ice cold from the floor in the second quarter and the Bison extended their lead at the half to 33-21. Day started to heat up in the third quarter scoring 11 points in the period as the Phoenix began to cut into the Bison lead. A three-point basket by freshman Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) pulled the Phoenix within single digits at 39-32 midway through the quarter. However, the Bison pushed the lead back to 14 points with just over two minutes left. An 8-1 run by the Phoenix that featured three-pointers by Day and junior Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md., North Point) made it a 7 point game heading to the fourth quarter. Good defense and great shooting led the Phoenix to a 10-0 run to open the fourth quarter and featured 5 points each for Day and Henderson to put the visitors ahead 54-51. Eventually the Bison would take the lead 57-56 with a minute and a half to go, but after a layup by Singer put the Phoenix back on top by a point, Day got a huge block that led to a bucket by Henderson on the other end to make it 60-57. Again the defense stepped up as junior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) came up with a steal. After a pair of missed three-pointers by the Bison, junior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa, Honesdale) grabbed a rebound and was fouled. Watkins sank one of two free throws to ice the comeback for the Phoenix and seal the 61-57 victory.

Inside the Box Score: Day had a game high 22 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Henderson was the only other Phoenix in double-digits with 15 points while adding 4 assists. Purvis totaled 8 points, 9 rebounds and added 3 steals.

Up Next: Wilson will be home on Saturday versus the College of Saint Elizabeth at 3:00 p.m.
