Phoenix Rout Bison in Men's Hoops


WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Wilson College men's basketball team pushed its win streak to five in a row with a 75-61 North Eastern Athletic Conference win at Gallaudet University. With the victory over the Bison (3-12, 3-5 NEAC), the Phoenix (11-5, 5-2 NEAC) have won eight of the last nine and are tied for second place in the NEAC South Division.

How It Happened: A three-pointer to open the game by sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) gave the Phoenix an early lead. Midway through the half, a layup by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute) pushed the lead to 14-8 in favor of the visitors. After the Bison tied the game at 16-16, Bean knocked down a pair of jumpers to make it 21-16 Phoenix. As the half wound down, a 10-0 run by the Phoenix, highlighted by three-pointers by freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl., Lyman ) and junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra), put the team ahead double digits at the break with a 31-20 lead. In the second half the Bison chipped away at the Phoenix lead, cutting it to as low as six points with seven and a half minutes to go. However, the Phoenix would go on a 16-3 run over the next three minutes led by 8 points from junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) to make the score 64-48 and the team closed out the game with a 75-61 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix won the turnover battle and converted the 17 turnovers by the Bison into 16 points. Adams led four Phoenix in double-digit scoring with 16 points while adding 7 rebounds. McDowell and Bean each had 13 points. Bean added 9 boards while McDowell tallied 3 steals, while Frazier added 10 points. 

Up Next: Wilson returns home to face the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
