Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Tames Wildcats

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team stayed hot Sunday with a 87-72 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory over visiting Penn College. The Phoenix (10-5, 4-2 NEAC) have now won 7 of the last 8 games with today's win over the Wildcats (1-13, 0-5 NEAC).

How It Happened:  The Phoenix opened up an eight point lead less than five minutes into the game that included a three-point bucket by freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) and a steal and layup by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute). A quick 9-0 run by the Wildcats followed as the visitors grabbed a 19-17 lead, however the Phoenix answered with an 8-0 run highlighted by three-pointers by junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) to make the score 25-19 in favor of the home team. As the half began to wind down, the Phoenix started to put some distance between themselves and the Wildcats and capped of the first half with a long three-pointer by Frazier at the buzzer to take a commanding 44-28 lead into the half. The domination continued in the second half as the Phoenix opened up a 27 point lead with a bucket by freshman Montaz McCray (Baltimore, Md., Chapelgate Christian) to make the score 76-49. Although the Wildcats used an 11-0 run late to cut the deficit to 13 points the game was never in doubt as the Phoenix closed it out with the 87-72 win.

Inside the Box Score: Powell led a trio of Phoenix in double digit scoring with 18 points, while junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) added 14 points and sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) tallied 13 points. That same trio also led the Phoenix in rebounds as Powell had 9 boards while Adams added 8 boards and Bean tallied 7. The Phoenix won the turnover battle and held a 19-14 advantage in points off turnovers.
