Falcons Fly Past Phoenix


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team hosted Cedar Crest College in non-conference action this evening. The Falcons (2-0) defeated the Phoenix (0-4) 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-12.

How it Happened: In the opening set, the Phoenix came out hot jumping out to a 7-1 advantage. The visiting Falcons clawed back into the set and eventually tied it up at 13-13. The two teams traded points until the Falcons rattled off four straight points to claim a 20-16 lead. Eventually, the Phoenix would pull back within 2 points at 23-21, but the Falcons closed out the set scoring the next two points for the 25-21 win in the opener. After being tied at 5-5 in the second set, the Falcons used a 10-2 run to grab a commanding 15-7 edge and eventually closed out set number 2 by a score of 25-10. The third and final set was again tightly contested early on as the teams got out to a 4-4 tie. However, the Falcons would slowly pull away and go on for the 25-12 win in set number three and close out the match 3-0.

Inside the Box Score: For the match, the Phoenix had 17 kills against 15 errors on 74 attempts for a .027 attacking percentage. The visiting Falcons had 25 kills against 10 errors on 66 attempts for a .227 attacking percentage. Sophomore Belen Aldecosea (Miami, Fl., Miami Beach) led the Phoenix attack with 6 kills and 2 blocks, while freshman Leslie Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fl., Coral Springs) tallied a team high 13 assists while adding 5 digs. Freshman Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) led the Phoenix with 11 digs.

Up Next: Wilson will be on the road this Friday night at Penn State Mont Alto with a 7:00 p.m. start.
