Phoenix Defeat Bison

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team faced Gallaudet University in their second NEAC game of the season. The Phoenix defeated the Bison 2-0. With this win the Phoenix move up to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC. The Bison's record moves to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC.

How It Happened: It took only two minutes for the Phoenix to get on the scoreboard. They came out strong and stayed strong. Junior Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) gathered a ball off a goalie rebound and sent it to the left of the net for the early goal. Junior Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) then got two shots off on goal, but one was blocked and the other was a keeper save. The Bison were able to get two shots off on goal in the first half, but the Phoenix kept pushing offensively to outshoot them with fourteen shots in the first half alone. The second period began 1-0 in favor of the Phoenix, and they continued to maintain their advantage. Sophomore Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador) got a good shot off on goal early in the half, one of five shots for the day, but it didn't get to the back of the net. It was junior Justin Vizzi (Spotswood, NJ) who scored the next goal assisted by senior Jesse Smith (Kingston, Jamaica), who gave Vizzi a beautifully placed pass so that Vizzi could loft the ball right above the Bison keeper's head. The Phoenix kept the Bison on the defensive for the remainder of the game, and the final score was 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix out shot the Bison 27 to 5 with 12 shots on goal to the Bison's 4 shots on goal. The Phoenix also had a huge edge in corner kicks with 14-2 over the Bison. Phoenix sophomore goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England) also had a shutout with four saves.
