Bison Thunder Past Phoenix


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team played host to seven-time defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion Gallaudet University this evening. The Bison (5-5, 1-0 NEAC) defeated the Phoenix (0-6, 0-1 NEAC) 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-9, and 25-20.

How It Happened:  The Bison fired out to strong leads in the first two sets led by Darriyan Thomas who recorded 9 kills on 11 attack attempts. It was in the third set that the Phoenix came alive and showed the potential the young team has as they climbed out to an early five point lead. The Phoenix continued to go toe to toe with the Bison as the match was tied at 20-20 late in the third set. However, the visitors would rattle off the last five points to claim the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix tallied 10 kills against 23 errors on 77 attempts for a -.169 attacking percentage, while the Bison had 32 kills against 5 errors on 63 attempts for a .429 attacking percentage. Sophomore Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) led the Phoenix with 5 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Leslie Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fl., Coral Springs) tied a game high with 3 service aces and a team high 9 assists. 

Up Next: Wilson will continue conference play with a trip to Cazenovia College on Saturday, September 16.
