BETHANY, Wv. - The Wilson College men's soccer team defeated the Bethany College Bison 4-0 today. This first win of the season moves the Phoenix up to a record of 1-1-1 and moves the Bison to 3-2.
How It Happened: The game began with both teams driving on the offensive attack, but the Phoenix scored first shifting the game's momentum in their favor. That first goal came from sophomore
Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) who headed the ball in off a corner kick from junior
Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii). The Bison pushed against the Phoenix defense, but the Phoenix didn't break. Instead, the Bison scored on themselves with less than two minutes left in the first half, which ended 2-0 Phoenix. The next goal came as the Bison were trying to clear the ball out of their defensive zone. Phoenix junior
Kevin Lysaght (Toms River, NJ.) shot through traffic for a scorcher of a goal. The final goal sealed the fate of the game as sophomore
Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador), assisted by junior
Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii), shot and scored from the top of the goal box while the Bison defense was down.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix out shot the Bison 10-9. Of those shots the Phoenix had 6 on goal while the Bison had only 2. The Bison had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Lysaght led the Phoenix in shots with two, both of which were on goal.
Up Next: The Phoenix play their next game away at Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, September 20, at 2:00 p.m.
