Men's Volleyball Drops Two in NEAC Crossover

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - This afternoon the Wilson College men's volleyball team hosted two teams in NEAC play. The first match was against the Lancaster Bible College Chargers, and  the second was against the Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions.

The Chargers (16-5, 6-1 NEAC) defeated the Phoenix 3-1 (14-4, 2-5 NEAC)  by scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-16, 25-19. In the first set freshman Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa.) led the Phoenix with four kills. The Chargers maintained the upper hand and won sent number one 25-19. However, the Phoenix took the second set. It was close game, and the Phoenix won by a slight margin of 26-24. The Chargers were aggressive at the net during the third set, and it ended a quick 25-16. In the fourth set sophomore Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa.) was on fire with one service ace and five straight kills out of 7 on 9 total attempts for the set. But the Chargers kept the lead, and the set ended 25-19 giving the Chargers 3-1 victory over the Phoenix for the match.

The Phoenix offense was led by Aaron Hoke with 16 kills and Baxter with 15 kills. Freshman Ian Firestone (York, Pa.) led the team in assists with 36. For the defense sophomore Evan Hoke had 14 digs, freshman Chance Wheeler had 12, and Aaron Hoke had 10.

The Chargers had 49 kills against 16 errors on 127 attacks for a hitting percentage of .260. The Phoenix had 44 kills against 20 errors on 127 attacks for a hitting percentage of .189.

In the second match the Phoenix fell to the Nittany Lions 0-3. The first set was  25-19, the second was a close 25-22, and the third 25-15. The Phoenix had 4 service aces in the match. Freshman Zachary McMaster (Gettysburg, Pa.) had the highest attack percentage for the team at .462. The Nittany Lions offense was led by Brad Colditz with 15 kills and Tommy Kisick with 33 assists. Wally Rivera-Berros had 13 digs for the Nittany Lions' defense. The Phoenix offense was led by Aaron Hoke with 9 kills and Firestone with 25 assists.

The Nittany Lions had 38 kills against only 8 errors on 73 attempts for an attack percentage of .411. The Phoenix had 27 kills against 16 errors on 95 attempts for an attack percentage of .116.

The Phoenix return to action at home on Tuesday, March 7 versus Arcadia University at 7:00 p.m.
