Men's Volleyball Takes Two Wins

HAMBURG, NY - The Wilson College men's volleyball team won both of their matches today. The first match against Hilbert College was 3-1 Phoenix, and the second match against D'Youville College was 3-2 Phoenix. 

In the first match, the Phoenix (8-19, 5-9 NEAC) defeated the Hilbert Hawks (0-17, 0-12 NEAC) 3-1 by set scores of 25-23, 25-12, 23-25, and 25-23. The Phoenix won the first two sets, lost the third, and won the fourth. Three of the Phoenix posted personal records during the match. Freshman Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa.) had a career high 22 kills for the match. Freshman Ian Firestone (York, Pa.) also tied his career high for assists with 45. Sophomore Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa.) posted a shattering 30 digs. Other players posted impressive stats as well. Sophomore Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa.) had 14 kills and 19 digs, and freshman Omar Abarca (Chicago, Il) had three blocks.

For the match the Phoenix had 50 kills against 20 errors on 153 attempts for a .190 attack percentage. The Hawks had 45 kills against 23 errors on 121 attempts for a .156 attack percentage. 

In the second match against D'Youville, the Phoenix won 3-2 by set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25, and 15-13. The Spartans (3-14, 2-9 NEAC) won the second and fourth sets. Baxter had 18 kills and Aaron Hoke had 17. Firestone had 39 assists and Evan Hoke had 9 digs. The Spartans offense posed a strong challenge to the Phoenix with Spartan Pat Stroh posting 22 kills, but the Phoenix battled it out for the win. 

For the match the Phoenix had 47 kills against 25 errors on 140 for an attack percentage of .157. The Spartans 53 kills against 34 errors on 138 attempts for a .138 attack percentage.
