Phoenix Can't Corral Mavericks

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team traveled to New York for a North Eastern Athletic Conference weekend. The Phoenix will play 3 matches on the trip and opened this evening with a match against the Medaille College Mavericks. The Phoenix (6-19, 3-9 NEAC) were topped by the Mavericks (12-10, 7-3 NEAC) 3-0 by scores of 28-26, 25-20, and 26-24. 

Sophomore Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) led the Phoenix attack with a game high 15 kills. Freshman Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa., Cocalico) was second on the team with 10 kills while adding 4 blocks and 2 service aces. Freshman Omar Abarca (Chicago, Il, Rickover Naval Academy) had a team high and season high 5 blocks. Sophomore Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) paced the team with a game high 24 digs and freshman Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) added 26 assists.

For the match, the Phoenix had 32 kills against 25 errors on 117 attempts for a .060 attacking percentage. The Mavericks posted 36 kills against 20 errors on 117 attempts for a .137 attacking percentage.

Wilson returns to action tomorrow morning versus Hilbert College at 9:00 a.m. and will wrap up the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. match with D'Youville College.
