MVB Goes 1-2 at NEAC Crossover

CRESSON, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road for a North Eastern Athletic Conference weekend. The matches, which were hosted by Penn State Altoona, were moved to Mount Aloysius College due to construction on the Altoona campus. The Phoenix finished the weekend with a 1-2 record, opening with a 3-0 win over Keuka College on Saturday and wrapping up with a pair of 3-0 losses to Wells College and SUNY Poly on Sunday.

In the opening match, the Phoenix (6-18, 3-8 NEAC) topped the Keuka College Wolves (7-7, 3-5 NEAC) by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19. The Phoenix used a match high 14 kills from freshman
Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa., Cocalico) and 11 kills from sophomore Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) in the victory. Sophomore Zachary Zerr (Dallastown, Pa, Dallastown Area H.S.) tallied a season high 7 blocks while freshman Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) added 30 assists. Sophomore Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) had a game high 11 digs and added 5 kills. For the match the Phoenix had 37 kills against a season low 9 errors on 95 attempts for a .295 attacking percentage.

In the second match of the weekend the Phoenix fell to the Wells College Express (11-10, 7-3 NEAC) by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 29-27. Aaron Hoke led the Phoenix with 10 kills, 2 blocks and 11 digs. Baxter added 9 kills and freshman
Chance Wheeler (Giles County, Va., Giles ) contributed 13 digs and 1 assist. The Phoenix had 25 kills against 31 errors on 110 attempts for a -.055 attacking percentage in the loss.

The Phoenix finished up the weekend falling to the SUNY Poly Wildcats (12-13, 7-4 NEAC) by scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-23. Sophomore
Zachary McMaster (Gettysburg, Pa., New Oxford) had 5 kills and Evan Hoke added a game high 13 digs in the loss. The team had 18 kills against 20 errors on 99 attempts for a -.020 attacking percentage.

Wilson will return to action next weekend with a a trip to Hamburg, New York for three more conference matches versus Medaiile College, Hilbert College, and D'Youville College respectively.
