Men's Hoops Rolls Over Crusaders

FRONT ROYAL, Va. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road for a non-conference tilt with Christendom College. The Phoenix defeated the Crusaders by a score of 77-57.

The Phoenix (6-16) opened the game on a 9-2 run as freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) opned the game with a three-pointer and junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) hit a three-pointer and scored an old fashioned three-point play. Later in the opening half, back to back buckets by junior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) and Adams gave the Phoenix their largest lead of the half over the Crusaders (3-10) at 16 points. The Crusaders would chip away at the lead and eventually pull within 4 points at 33-29 with just over three minutes left before the break, however the Phoenix would end the half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-29 lead at the half.

An 11-4 run to open the second half grew the Phoenix advantage to 18 points, a lead that grew to as many as 29 points as senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) got hot and scored 12 points over a seven minute stretch. The Crusaders never threatened in the second half as the Phoenix closed the game out with a 20 point victory.

Bean and Adams recorded double-doubles as bean went for 24 points and 18 rebounds while Adams had 23 points and 13 rebounds. Nelson also scored over 20 points as he tallied 23 points, marking the first time in program history the Phoenix had 3 players score at least 20 points in the same game.

Wilson will be back in action this Saturday as Keuka College comes to town for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
