Phoenix Tame Wolves

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup this afternoon. The PHoenix defeated the Wolves by a score of 94-75.

The Phoenix (7-16, 6-12 NEAC) opened the game on an 11-4 run getting a pair of three-point baskets from freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park). Later in the half the Phoenix would use a 17-5 run in less than five minutes of action to grow the lead to 32-13 over the Wolves (3-17, 3-11 NEAC) just before the midway point of the half. Junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) scored 11 of the 17 points during the run including a pair of three-pointers. The two teams traded baskets for the next several minutes but the Phoenix would rattle off the last 5 points of the half including a deep three-pointer by sophomore Dominique Walker (Smyrna, DE, St. Thomas More Academy)with a hand in his face at the buzzer to give the hosts a 48-26 lead at the half.

Opening the second half on a 7-0 run, the Wolves were determined to get back into the game. A three-point play by Adams with an assist from Walker stopped the Wolves run with the Phoenix ahead 53-33. Each time the Wolves tried to make a run during the opening ten minutes of the second half, the Phoenix had an answer and held a 68-53 lead. However an 8-0 run by the Wolves pulled the team within single digits at 69-61 with 7:45 left to play. The Phoenix once again answered, rattling off a 10-2 run with Bean recording 6 points over that stretch. The Phoenix defense buckled down the rest of the way as the team went on for the 94-75 victory.

For the second game in a row, the Phoenix had 3 players with at least 20 points, a feat that had never happened until this week. Adams tallied a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Bean added 25 points of his own. Senior
Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) totaled 24 points and 7 rebounds while junior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) came off the bench to add 8 points.

Wilson is back in action tomorrow at home versus Wells college at 2:00 p.m.
