Chargers Stampede Phoenix in Men's Hoops

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted Lancaster Bible College in North Eastern Athletic Conference action this afternoon. The visiting Chargers won by a score of 77-53.

Coming off of a hot shooting game yesterday, the Phoenix (5-16, 5-12 NEAC) were unable to duplicate that same success today as the Chargers (9-11, 9-6 NEAC) defense held the team to just 29% shooting from the floor. Trailing 6-4 early in the games, a pair of three-pointers by junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) gave the Phoenix a 10-6 advantage. However, the Chargers answered with a 16-0 run and take a 22-10 lead at the midway point of the opening half.  A few minutes later, back-to-back three-pointers by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) and Adams pulled the Phoenix within 10 points, but again the Chargers answered and pushed their lead back up to 14 points at 36-22 and eventually would take a 39-26 lead into the half.

Both teams traded baskets in the opening five minutes of the second half. A quick 6-0 run by the Phoenix capped off by a jumper from freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) pulled the Phoenix to within 5 points of the lead at 45-40 with just over 13 minutes to play, but a 14-2 run by the Chargers put the visitors up 16 points with 6:29 left in regulation. The Phoenix were not able to overcome the the deficit and the Chargers would go on for the 77-53 victory.

For the game, the Chargers held a 52-18 advantage on points in the paint and a 53-29 edge in rebounds.

Adams led the Phoenix in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 8 boards. Bean added 14 points and 7 rebounds while Nelson tallied 13 points.

The Phoenix will return to the court on Tuesday with a road contest at Christendom College at 8:00 p.m.
