Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Torch Nittany Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Penn State Berks this afternoon. The Phoenix defeated the visiting Nittany Lions 99-86.

A hot shooting Phoenix (5-15, 5-11 NEAC) took control in the opening minutes starting the game with a 14-4 run against the Nittany Lions (4-14, 4-10 NEAC) highlighted by a pair of three-pointers by junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley). Clawing their way back into the game, the Nittany Lions pulled within 2 points at 19-17 just before the midway point of the opening half. A jumper by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) and a pair of old fashioned three-point plays by freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) pushed the Phoenix ahead by 7 points before sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) drilled a three-pointer to make it a 10 point Phoenix advantage. Later in the half, back to back three-pointers by Bean and Adams gave the Phoenix  their largest lead of the half at 38-25 with just over five minutes left. The Nittany Lions would chip away at the lead and pull within 49-44 going into halftime.

Back to back three-pointers in the opening minute of the second half brought the visitors within 1 point at 52-51, but again the Phoenix got a three-point play from Bean and a three-point jumper from Adams to grow the lead to 7 points. A few minutes later, a steal by senior
Kasdan Holder (Zebulon, N.C., East Wake) led to a layup for Frazier and junior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) followed with a jumper to give the Phoenix a double-digit lead at 66-56. The Nittany Lions would answer using a bucket in the paint to pull within 5 points at 72-67 with 8:37 to go, but an 11-3 run by the Phoenix capped off by a three-pointer by Nelson gave the Phoenix an 83-70 lead. The Nittany Lions would never really threaten after that as the Phoenix closed the game out for the 99-86 victory.

For the game, the Phoenix shot a solid 44.5% from the field while also shooting an outstanding 94% at the free throw line knocking down a season high 31 free throws on 33 attempts, led by Bean going 11 for 11 from the stripe. The team also had a season high 50 rebounds.

Bean notched his 6th double-double of the season with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Adams tallied his team leading 7th double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Nelson added 17 points and Frazier scored 12 points as the only other players in double-digits.

Wilson will return to action tomorrow versus Lancaster Bible College at 2:00 p.m.
