Men's Hoops Can't Slow Express

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest this afternoon. The visiting Express topped the Phoenix 80-63.

An already short handed Phoenix (7-17, 6-13 NEAC) team, due to injuries, ran into foul trouble early in the game as the teams' second leading scorer and rebounder, freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park), picked up two quick fouls in the opening minutes. Bean and junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) had the offense on the right track as each knocked down a three-pointer en route to scoring the teams first 9 points, but the Phoenix still trailed the Express (15-8, 12-4 NEAC) 10-9. The Express would go on a 12-0 run to take a 22-9 lead with less than ten minutes to play in the opening half. Baskets by sophomore Dominique Walker (Smyrna, DE, St. Thomas More Academy) and freshman Elijah Lowe (York, Pa., Eastern York) kept the Phoenix within striking distance at 24-13. However, the Express would finish the half with a 12-2 run and hold a commanding 44-25 lead at halftime.

A 15-2 run to open the second half by the Express pushed their lead to 32 points at 59-27. The Phoenix would continue to battle and use a 14-2 run of their own, highlighted by 9 points from Bean to pull the team within 71-53 with just under seven minutes to go. The teams would trade baskets down the stretch as the Phoenix were unable to pull any closer and the express would go on for the 80-63 victory.

Despite only playing 25 minutes, Bean led the Phoenix offense with 27 points while adding 12 rebounds. Adams scored 21 points and a game high 18 rebounds. This was Adams team leading 10th double-double of the season, while Bean added his 9th double-double of the season.

Wilson will play their final game of the season next Saturday, February 15 at home versus Gallaudet at 3:00 p.m.
