Lions Run Away From Phoenix

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team faced off against Bryn Athyn in a North Eastern Athletic Conference tilt this evening. The Lions topped the Phoenix by a score of 79-61.

The Phoenix (4-15, 4-11 NEAC) jumped out to an early 12-4 lead on the strength of four straight three-pointers by four different Phoenix and senior
Kasdan Holder (Zebulon, N.C., East Wake) knocked down the first one followed by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley), sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ). The Lions (8-10, 6-7 NEAC) battled back for the better part of the opening 10 minutes and used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 16-16. Back to back baskets by freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) put the Phoenix ahead 20-18 with just over 7 minutes left in the half, but the Lions followed with an 8-0 run that included a pair of three-pointers to reclaim the lead. The Lions would knock down a three-pointer on 5 consecutive possessions, but the Phoenix would answer with a three-pointer of their own by Nelson to trim the lead to 35-31 late in the half and the Phoenix would eventually trail 37-31 at the break.

After the Lions grew their lead to 11 points early in the half, the Phoenix eventually pulled within 5 points on a jumper by junior
Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) with just under 14 minutes to go. The Phoenix would get no closer as the Lions would use a 13-2 run in the middle of the half to take an 18 point advantage and would go on to win by that same margin 79-61.

The Phoenix were led by Nelson who scored a season high 24 points, while Bean added his 6th double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Frazier was the only other Phoenix in double digits with 10 points.

Wilson returns to the court this weekend with a home contest versus Penn State Berks on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
