Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Stop Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team competed against non-conference opponent Frostburg State University. The Phoenix, now 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC, lost to the Bobcats (5-3, 1-1 CAC) by a score of 58-85.

How It Happened: The Phoenix played a strong first half. Right off the tip off junior Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) scored a lay-up assisted by junior Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI). However, a seven point run from the Bobcats sent the Phoenix trailing behind early on. But the home team perservered as they worked hard to stay in the game. In the second quarter the Phoenix struggled to sink a couple buckets and let up a 13 point lead at one point. Yet by the end of the half, the Phoenix had earned their own share on the court with a seven point run to shave away the deficit. The Bobcats and the Phoenix each scored 13 points in the second quarter.

The second half started 33-26 Bobcats. The Phoenix were down by 7, just within reach of their opponents. By the start of the third quarter, the Bobcats realized they would have to work harder to fend off the Phoenix. Junior Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va) opened up the second half with three-pointer assisted by juniorLindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) to make the score a close 29-33. The Bobcats sharpened up their game at the three-point line, and they were able to gain crucial points from the arc. The Phoenix kept pushing, but they couldn't match the Bobcats' field goal percentage. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats outscored the Phoenix 28-15. And so, the visiting team took the victory 85-58.

Inside the Box Score: Henderson led the Phoenix in scoring tonight as she made a season-high 7 field goals and had 16 total points. Purvis also racked up double digits as she recorded 10 points. The Bobcats had the advantage in field goal percentage 47.5%-39.6%.
