Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions Prey on Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - This afternoon the Wilson College men's basketball team tipped off against the Bryn Athyn College Lions. After leading much of the game, the Phoenix (3-3, 0-2 NEAC) fell short as the Lions (3-1, 1-0) clawed their way to the top and took the win 80-76.

How It Happened: The first five minutes were very close, setting the tone for the rest of the game. After sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx) sunk a three-pointer to even the score 10-10, the Phoenix went on a scoring streak. The run was peppered with free throws and made substantial with two more three-pointers--one of which was from junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) and another from freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl.). Freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.) put in a lot of work in the paint for the Phoenix in the first half as well. The Lions held a short-lived 3-point lead 28-25, but the Phoenix flew out of the Lion's reach for the remainder of the first half. After Frazier finessed a three-point bucket right at the buzzer, the Phoenix headed to the locker room with a 40-33 lead.

The Phoenix maintained a strong lead for most of the second half. Bean started things off with a steal. While Frazier led the Phoenix in total points in the first half with 15 after sinking a mind-blowing 4 three-pointers and then some, Bean led the team in the second half with 11 points. He scored from all over the court, racking up points from the three point line and inside the paint. Senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD) made some moves in the paint, too. He even single-handedly achieved a six point run. Despite the dynamic offensive play coming from the Phoenix, the Lions waited patiently as they slowly preyed on the lead. They finally caught up to the Phoenix and took a two-point lead 76-74 with only 2:46 left on the clock. The Phoenix managed to tie the score up 76-76, but several poorly timed fouls gave the Lions an 80-76 victory.

Inside the Box Score: Four of the Phoenix scored in the double digits today. Frazier led in scoring today and beat his own season-high with 20 points. Powell recorded 16 points, Bean 14, and McDowell 10. The Phoenix had the edge in field-goal percentage 45.8%-43.3%.

Up Next: The Phoenix play Hood College on Tuesday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. in Frederick, Maryland.
