Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Crush Crusaders

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team played host to the Crusaders (1-5) of Christendom College. In this non-conference match-up the Phoenix (5-4) defeated the Crusaders 98-48.

How It Happened: The Crusaders kept up with the Phoenix for the early part of the first half. But things started to heat up for the Phoenix quickly. Freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.) sunk the first bucket, a jump shot. The Crusaders then retaliated with some action in the paint, but sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx) floated three-pointer into the bucket with ease. The Phoenix continued to capitalize on the Crusader's weaknesses with a lot of action at the arc in the first half. Powell hit a three-pointer and junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md.) sunk two three-pointers to give the Phoenix a lead they would maintain for the rest of the game. Junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) landed a jump shot that the Crusaders' Michael Urankar responded to with a jumper of his own making the score 20-17 Phoenix. The Phoenix offense remained prolific for the rest of the half. Freshman Ian Hess (Orlando, Fl.) put in work in the paint with a jumper and a lay up, and in the field he sunk a three-pointer.

The second half began with the Phoenix up by 23 points as they led Crusaders 46-23. Bean started things out right for the hosting team with a three-pointer. Frazier then weighed in at the arc to add another three to the Phoenix's score. The Phoenix dominated even more than they did in the first as they swept their opponents with a 14 point run, which was only broken by the Crusader's leading scorer, Patrick Pennefather. The Phoenix had an impressive amount of points come from the bench tonight, especially in the second half. Their total amount of bench points tonight was 34. Freshman Trevor Floyd (New Oxford, Pa.) added three points to the Phoenix scoreboard, and freshman Montaz McCray (Baltimore, Md.) finessed a jump shot. Meanwhile, the visiting team added only one point to their tally with a free throw. Senior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md.) made his presence known in the latter part of the second half as he scored a three pointer assisted by his brother, senior Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md.). Hess scored the bulk of the remaining points for the Phoenix to close out the half, and the Phoenix conquered the Crusaders by a final score of 98-48.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix won by a 55 point margin. They made 50% of their field goal attempts tonight as opposed to the Crusaders' 29.3%. The Phoenix also had a huge advantage from the arc as they outshoot the Crusaders from the three point line 37.5%-9.5%.
