Chargers Stampede Phoenix


LANCASTER, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play at Lancaster Bible College this evening. The Chargers (3-1, 1-0 NEAC) used a huge second half to top the Phoenix (3-2, 0-1 NEAC) by a final score of 97-57.

How It Happened: A tale of two halves tells the story of tonight's game. In the opening half the Phoenix got the first bucket of the game as freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in. After trading baskets for a few minutes, the Chargers trailing 8-6, used a 12-2 run midway through the half to take their largest lead of the half at 18-10. The Phoenix answered with a 9-2 run that featured a three-point play by sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) and three point baskets by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) and senior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) to make it a one point game. Neither team would lead by more than six points the rest of the half as the Chargers took a 42-38 lead into the break. After shooting nearly 50% from the floor in the first half, the Phoenix offense couldn't get going in the second half. Trailing by single digits with twelve minutes to go, the Phoenix saw the Chargers go on a 22-2 run that put the game away as the hosts outscored the Phoenix by a 55-19 margin in the second half.

Inside the Box Score: Bean had a team high 18 points and 6 rebounds while Adams added 15 points and 5 boards. The Phoenix shot 37% from the floor as a team and committed 17 turnovers. A 47-25 advantage for the Chargers on the boards led to a 26-9 edge in second chance points.
