Women's Hoops Takes Overtime Win

STAUNTON, Va. - The Wilson College women's basketball team took home a victory on the road against Mary Baldwin College 82-78 in overtime. The Phoenix now have a record of 3-2 and the Fighting Squirrels are now 0-4.

How It Happened: In the first quarter the Phoenix outscored the Fighting Squirrels 14-11. By the second quarter the Phoenix increased their field goal percentage by more than ten percent and continued to outscore the Fighting Squirrels to make the score 29-23 at the half. Scoring went up dramatically at the start of the second half as both teams came out fresh from the locker room looking to lock down the win. The Fighting Squirrels racked up 29 buckets in the third quarter alone. The score was a close 52-53 and the Fighting Squirrels outscored the Phoenix 20-19 in the fourth to tie up the game and force overtime. But the Phoenix would pull out the victory in overtime 82-78.

Inside the Box Score: Junior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) led the Phoenix in scoring with 20 points. Two other Phoenix recorded double digits tonight as well. Sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va) had 16 points and sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) had 14.
