Phoenix Crush Cedar Crest

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Tonight the Phoenix took on non-conference opponent Cedar Crest College. The Phoenix defeated the visiting Falcons with a 20 point lead 79-59. This moves the Phoenix to an even 2-2 record while the Falcons are now 0-3.

How It Happened: The Phoenix let their presence be known early with a three-pointer from sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va). But things really heated up for Phoenix as junior Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI) was next to throw some points on the scoreboard with a smooth jumper, followed by sophomore Ashley Henderson's (Upper Marlboro, Md.) first two-point bucket of the night. Next to score was sophomore Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa.) with a lay-up in the paint, set up beautifully by junior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa). Next time the ball was on the Phoenix's end of the court Watkins and Burdo switched roles as Watkins hit a lay-up and Burdo was on the assist. A large portion of the points that the Falcons scored in the first quarter came from free throws, and the second quarter began with the Phoenix up 20-14. Yet the Falcons began to gather a little more momentum as they succeeded in sinking enough buckets to hang on. Then with just about four minutes left in the first half, the Phoenix swept the Falcons with a 10 point run, allowing the Falcons no more field goals before the halftime buzzer.

Geminii Cabrera, who had 24 points tonight for the Falcons, added two jumpers for her team early in the third quarter. That's when freshman Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa.) started making moves on the court with an unstoppable fast break in the paint. But she didn't stop there--Singer led in scoring for the second half with 10 points. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Phoenix had secured a 19 point lead.  Despite some push back from the Falcons, the Phoenix got the win 79-59.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix shot a 39.7% field goal percentage while the Falcons shot 29.1%. Tonight the Phoenix also outscored the Falcons in the paint 24-10 and had 28 points off turnovers. Henderson led the Phoenix in scoring with 18 points followed by junior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) and Burdo who each had 14.

Up Next: The Phoenix hit the road Sunday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. to play Mary Baldwin College.
