CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team took on non-conference opponent Bridgewater College this evening. The Phoenix soared past the Eagles 91-78. This gives the Phoenix a record of 3-1 overall while the Eagles move to 1-2 on the season.
How It Happened: Scoring was tit for tat at the beginning of the game. The Eagles began to pull away from the Phoenix, getting up to an eight point lead at one point. Sophomore
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx) then scored a three pointer, and freshman
Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va.) blocked a shot from the Eagles' Sami El-Rafey. Powell's block allowed Bean to be the next one on the court to score again, this time with a lay-up that tied the score 25-25. Yet the Eagles pulled away and took the lead as the half closed out 41-33 in favor of the visitors.
The tables turned in the second half. The Eagles held onto their lead for less than five minutes, and the Phoenix rose up to conquer. This time it was a jumper from senior
Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD) that tied the game up 47-47. After that, the Phoenix had a ten point run that gave them a landslide 16 point lead. The Eagles' most dangerous shooter, El-Rafey worked to close in on the Phoenix as he stacked up two jumpers and a couple free throws. Despite the last-ditch efforts of the Eagles, the Phoenix stayed on top, and they rose from the ashes to claim victory in the second half 91-78.
Inside the Box Score: Bean led the Phoenix in points with 31, followed by McDowell with 18, and Powell with 17. Junior
Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) and junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md.) hit double digits in points tonight as well. The Phoenix had the slight edge in shooting with 43.3% field goals made over Bridgewater's 42%.
