Falcons Take Flight over Phoenix

MADISON, NJ. - The Phoenix continued to compete in the Rose City Classic as they tipped off against Albertus Magnus College. They were unable to soar past the Falcons as they were defeated 79-63. This moves the Phoenix to a record of 1-2 and the Falcons are now 2-1 on the season.

How It Happened: The Phoenix began trailing in the first quarter. Sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was first to score for the Phoenix with a lay-up. The Falcons played a strong offensive and defensive game, making it hard for the Phoenix to put up points on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, the Phoenix started to gain slightly on the Falcons. They were more aggressive on defense. Sophomore Amber Jones (Waldorf, Md.) had a block, and sophomore Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) scored a lay-up after a sly steal. Junior Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI) got fouled going for a three pointer and she put away all three free throws, which closed the Falcons' lead to ten points 33-23. The half ended 40-29 Falcons.

While the Phoenix continued to score in the second half, they couldn't keep up with the Falcons' aggressive offense. The Falcons had increased their lead to 22 points by the end of the third quarter 61-37. The Phoenix whittled away the Falcons drastic lead by the end of the quarter though. Sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va)came out hot with as she sunk two three pointers. Before the quarter ended Day also had a fast break in the paint, but the Falcons came out on top 79-63.

Inside the Box Score: Day led the Phoenix in points this evening with a season high 19. Next in points was Wallace with 12 and Henderson with 10. The Falcons had the advantage in field goal percentage over the Phoenix 37.5%-32.2%. The Phoenix tied the score only once very early in the game, and the Falcons had 40 points in the paint opposed to the Phoenix's 26.

Up Next: The Phoenix's next game is at home on Tuesday, November 21, at 5:00 p.m. against Cedar Crest College.
