Rangers Lockup Phoenix


MADISON, N.J. - The Wilson College women's basketball team hit the road to play in the Rose City Classic hosted by Drew University. The Phoenix (1-1) fell to the Rangers (1-0) by a final score of 67-43.

How It Happened: The Rangers came out hot by opening the game on an 18-2 run. A 6-3 finish to the quarter by the Phoenix, with buckets from sophomore Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa., Perkiomen School) and senior Amber Jones (Waldorf, Md., Maurice J McDonough) made the score 21-8. The Phoenix played a better second quarter, highlighted by five points from junior Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina), but were unable to cut the deficit as each team scored ten points and the visitors trailed at the half 31-18. An 11-2 run by the Rangers early in the third quarter opened up a 19 point lead. Junior Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI, Bladensburg (Md.) scored five points in the quarter to lead te Phoenix, however the Rangers held a 48-31 advantage. The Rangers grew their lead to 27 points in the fourth quarter and would close out the game with a 67-43 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix struggled from the field hitting on 13 of 62 attempts for a 21% field goal percentage, while the Rangers doubled that by hitting 42% from the field. In a game that featured a combined 51 turnovers, the Rangers edged the Phoenix 20-11 in converting those turnovers to points. Day scored a team high 10 points while Wallace added a game high 5 steals.

Up Next: Wilson will play in the consolation game of the Rose City Classic tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. versus Albertus Magnus.
