Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Falcons Screech Past Phoenix

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team played in the TowneSuite Place Tip-Off hosted by Messiah College this evening. The Phoenix (1-1) fell to the host Falcons (1-1) by a final score of 88-59.

How It Happened: A tale of two halves played out for the Phoenix in their matchup with the Falcons. A three-point basket by sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) started the Phoenix offense that took the early lead, and though the game was tight, never trailed during the opening nine minutes of action. The Falcons stayed close and took their first lead of the game 16-15 at the eleven minute mark of the half. Trailing by three points at the midway point, the Phoenix would go on a 13-0 run that featured a nice fast-break bucket by senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute) with an assist from junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley), to give the visitors a 31-21 lead with four and a half minutes to go in the half. However, the Falcons would answer with a 10-0 run to notch the game at 31-31 and the teams would eventually head to the break tied at 35-35. The Phoenix shot 35% from the field in the half while the Falcons hit on 43% of their shots. The second half shooting was a different story for both teams. A 14-2 run by the Falcons to open the second half put the hosts up 49-37. A cold shooting Phoenix team could not cut into the deficit and the Falcons hot shooting pushed their lead to as many as thirty-two points. In the second half the Phoenix managed just 27% shooting from the field while the Falcons shot an outstanding 69% from the field including 6-of-9 from behind the arc in route to the 88-59 final score.

Inside the Box Score: The Falcons held a 40-20 advantage in points in the paint and the Falcons bench outscored the Phoenix bench by a 29-18 margin. Junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra), McDowell, and Bean scored 10 points each for the Phoenix while Adams added 9 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Up Next: Wilson will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. versus Delaware Valley.
