Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Eluded by Wildcats

CAZENOVIA, N.Y.- Today the men's soccer team came up short 0-2 against the Cazenovia Wildcats. This moves the Phoenix's record down to 4-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the NEAC. The Wildcats are now 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the NEAC.

How It Happened: The Phoenix had good scoring chances early on in the game. Sophomore Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador) forced the Wildcats' keeper to make a save, drawing a corner kick in the aftermath. After their second corner kick, the Phoenix were able to put another shot towards the net, but this time it went wide. The first half was a deadlock, but it wasn't for lack of trying. The Phoenix recorded 12 shots in the first period alone compared to the Wildcats' 4. In the second half it was the Wildcats who finally broke the ice when they scored the game's first goal almost twenty minutes in. The Wildcats ensured their lead with less than three minutes left in the game as they scored another goal, and the game ended 2-0 in their favor.

Inside the Box Score: Despite vicious and relentless offensive attacks from the Phoenix, the Wildcats were able to stave them off. Out shooting the Wildcats 18-11 despite the game's outcome, junior Aaron Russ (Honolulu) led the Phoenix in shots with 5. The Phoenix also enjoyed the advantage in corner kicks 11-2 over the Wildcats.

Up Next: The Phoenix play McDaniel College at home on Wednesday, October 11, at 4:00 p.m.
